Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

By Watchman | June 19, 2009

“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.”  (Psalms 5:11)

“Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.  He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.  You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.  A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.”  (Psalms 91:3-7)

Nearly every day now brings some new concern or distress to the people of God.  The many changes that have been slowly taking place over the last forty or so years are suddenly bursting full-fledged into fruition.  The leaders of the world are by and large dedicated to instituting the New World Order–a world government uniting the nations under a common system of laws and denying the sovereignty of any nation–and although many have scoffed at the idea for years, it has now been admitted by several who believed it to be a conspiracy theory devised by conservative factions and radical Christians (!) that for the first time a world government actually is a possibility in today’s world.  We in the United States have seen a growing desire on the part of the present governmental administration to achieve some sort of unity with the Muslim world regardless of their disdain and dislike of us or the effect it will have on our only strong democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel.  Our government is foolishly advising Israel to give up more of the tiny bit of land they hold to a Palestinian state and to divide the capitol city of Jerusalem.  Most of us who love the Lord know that He has a special covenant relationship with Israel, and that Israel is still (regardless of His past judgments upon her) the apple of His eye.  He will bless those individuals and nations that will bless Israel, and He will curse those that curse her.  Most disturbing of all, we have given up our designation as a Judeo-Christian nation, but our President has proudly (and inaccurately) claimed that we could be considered one of the largest Islamic nations.  For the first year of my writing articles for the Watchman I kept myself from commenting much on the political scene because I believe my calling is that of a preacher and watchman, not a political commentator; however, under the present administration we are now quickly eroding into a formally godless society, and I cannot keep silent.  Judgment will quickly overtake this nation and the world should we continue in our arrogance and our determination to keep God out of our public lives.

Brothers and sisters, we must speak out.  We must put away any fear we have of being castigated for our beliefs and proclaim the truth of Jesus to anyone who’s heart will be open enough to hear it.  We must put away our fear of being called racists and fundamentalist “domestic terrorists” and do what we can to spread the love of Jesus to those who have never had the gift of an introduction to Him and the knowledge of the sinful nature of our present way of life.  We need to be on our knees praying for a larger remnant to be raised up who will glorify His name.

The spiritual attacks against Christians are continuing and they are accompanied by a growing disfavor with Christianity among the general public and certainly among our governmental bodies.  While most people of the United States still consider themselves to be Christians, many belonging to some of the mainstream churches or who are unaffiliated with any denomination are beginning to abjure the absolute authority of Scripture and are beginning to turn to a false Jesus who preaches a watered-down version of truth and who repudiates any notion of sin, hell and the need to follow the unchanged and unchanging Word of God.  God will not be mocked, brothers and sisters-in-Christ!  But for those of us who love Him, God is still our protecter and our fortress!

A friend of mine some months ago suggested the daily reading of Psalm 91 as a reminder of God’s constant care for us.  I have found this to be such a comfort to my heart, so I’m passing the suggestion on to all of you here.  No matter what the world does or what bad decisions are made, we “who dwell(s) in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”  Reminding yourself of this first thing each morning is indeed a blessing!

Say what the Lord lays on your heart to tell the unbeliever and the fallen away.  Keep your eyes upon Jesus, who prophesied that when all these things came to pass, we should look up, for our redemption is near!!
