If You Continue in My Word…

By Watchman | January 25, 2010

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”  (John 6:51)

…If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  (John 8:31-32)

Beloved friends, in an earlier post about the covenants God has made with man, I pointed out that while some covenants were unconditional, depending only on God’s willingness to bestow them; some were conditional, and needed man to perform his part in the “if/then” covenant.  There has been so much talk lately, even within the confines of the church, about Jesus bearing the sins of all so that no one will be condemned.  In other words, the new covenant which was birthed in the person of Jesus is an unconditional one which makes no demands upon His people.  As a result of this refusal to trust in the words of our Lord, many people who call themselves Christians will die in their sins, for lack of knowledge.

Jesus told his disciples that “He that is of God hears God’s words.” (John 8:47)  As is evident in the Scriptures at the beginning of this post, Jesus’ covenant with His people is conditional upon :  IF any man eats of this bread, THEN he will live forever.  He goes on the say that IF we do not partake of His body and blood (by accepting His sacrificial death and resurrection as an atonement for our sins) THEN there will be no life in us.   In Rev. 3:20-21, Jesus tells us “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.  To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”  What thrilling promises!  Yet, note that they were not made indiscriminately.  They were promises made to those who overcome–to those who accept and love Him, those who live in His word and for the sake of His name; to those who overcome sin and the wiles and assaults of the devil by the power of His name.  Brothers and sisters, there may be so little time in which to become a part of the kingdom of God.  He is coming soon to claim His own, and His bride needs to be dressed in the finest wedding clothes we can find in order to be present at the nuptials.  Though no man knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return, Jesus gave us the warning signs of the generation that would see His return (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 17).  Nearly all of the signs are in place.  Study the Scriptures for yourselves–read for yourselves the words of Christ in the New Testament, and the promises, admonitions and prophecies of the Father in the Old.  We are falling away, beloved, and hearkening to our own vision of what we believe God should and should not be.  “Scholars” are debating which of the words of Jesus were really His, which were truly ordained by God–yet God Himself tells us that His word is true and Scripture inerrant.  Do not be led astray by the Oprah philosophy that “MY God is not a jealous God” although God tells us that He is.  Do not be misled by the false doctrines of demons that tell us God would never condemn what He has created.  When we refuse to accept the laws and truths God has given us in Scripture, we become as the ultimate man of sin who will soon appear, “who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God…” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)  God has given us His word so that we might not live in darkness; that we might know our true place as sons and daughters of the Most High God.   Even if you do not believe in the end times prophecies of the Bible, or if you do not believe we are living in that last generation, take a lesson from the recent earthquakes in Haiti.  Those people were living their daily lives without expectation of calamity or the imminent destruction that was to come upon them.  They ate, they slept, they married, they worked, they partied, some worshiped the Father and some were practioners of darker religions–yet the end came upon many of them without notice.  Some were prepared to stand in the place of judgment before God; many were not.  Those who died in the Lord are with Him in heaven.  I suspect that there are now some souls who wish they had heeded the words of God–too late.  Don’t let more time go by before you take stock of your life and your relationship with the Creator of all.  Repent of sin, be restored to a right relationship with God through the covering of the atoning blood of Jesus–and live forever.

Maranatha!
