He Shall Supply Our Needs

By Watchman | November 9, 2009

Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt…if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done.  And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”  (Matthew 21:21)

“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind.  For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things.  But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.”  (Luke 12:30-31)

A somewhat disconcerting article appeared on Friday’s Fox News website.  According to this source, although so many businesses are in a state of financial crisis and people have so much less expendable cash, fortune-tellers, tarot-card readers and psychics are reporting a substantial increase in business.  The American Association of Psychics says that business is booming, and more people than ever are attending some sort of classes dealing with psychic phenomena, ie, the occult; salaries for those involved can reach as high as $200 @hour–a pretty good salary in anybody’s estimation.  One does not have far to go to discover the reasons for this sudden growth in attentiveness to psychics and fortune-tellers.  With the economy in poor shape, dividends not paying what they used to, a struggling  job market and pension plans and IRAs shrinking, many people are turning to the occult in an effort to establish whether or not their futures are secure.

My brothers and sisters in Christ–the time to choose is now:  From what or whom will we receive our hope?  From what source will we expect our security?  In what, or in whom, will we put our trust?

We are living in extremely difficult times.  The financial prosperity of which we had such great hopes and around which we built our dreams is fast diminishing.  That, of course, is the main problem.  Our hopes and dreams have centered around a false god that cannot save us and cannot offer us comfort once it is no longer within our grasp.  I have a great respect for money and what it can accomplish, but when we as a people began to worship that which the Father had given us as a gift and a testimony to His goodness rather than worshipping the Father Himself, we set ourselves up to fail.  When our trust was centered in that which has been created instead of in the Creator banks failed, businesses laid of workers, personal incomes began to evaporate and evil began to take over the country.  God’s hand of mercy has slowly lifted off the nation that now chooses to call itself no longer by His name.  As He has done so, many of those who scoffed at the word of God seem to find no difficulty in turning to ungodly and demonic sources for their strength.

God warned many times that His people were not to consult occultic sources of any sort–witches, sorcerers, “sooth-sayers” (the Biblical equivalent of psychics).  As I mentioned in my earlier post “We shall be as gods…???”, with the 20th century acceptance of the Ouija Board and astrology, what had been for centuries mostly the esoteric beliefs of a few cranks or the exclusive venue of the truly spiritually-depraved became the norm for most people not intimately acquainted with Scripture.  God’s word doesn’t change.  It does not matter to Him if we decide His rules are unfair or stuffy.  God condemned the consultation of psychics, and He condemns it still.   However, I cannot but think of the hurt we cause Him when we choose to take our problems and desires to sources that are either demonic or fraudulent instead of to the Father who is waiting to see to our needs; who desires us to come to Him with all of our pains and sorrows; who promises that He is faithful unto all generations that believe in Him.

Beloved ones, I am not talking without some experience here.  I too am in the middle of what might be considered a frightening financial crisis.  Yet I cannot–I CANNOT- fear!  He who set me on the path I tread now will deliver me in the day of trouble.  He did not promise I would have no trouble–He promised I had no need to fear it.  This is truly Good News!  God loves us so much–not just me, or preachers or saints, but all of us so much– that He gave His Son to die for our sins that we might have life, and have it more abundantly.  He has promised to never leave or forsake us. He has promised to “supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:19)  Most of all, He has promised us everlasting and unconditional love and a place with Him in eternity!  Don’t give up all of this for the sake of a few moments excitement with the paranormal.  Take your needs and your worship before the God of your creation; the God who loves you beyond what you can ask or think!  I will put my trust in the Lord and He alone will I serve.  I will trust Him because He knows me and I know Him.

If you have been involved in the occult in any way–whether you are a channeler or a card-reader, a psychic or just someone who consults an astrologer–God desires to have you back.  He is waiting for you to turn to Him in repentance and He is ready to forgive you and refresh and restore your spirit.  He is a good and gracious God and He loves you.  Turn to Him; accept the sacrifice of His Son for your sins, and give Him thanks.

Maranatha!
