Choose This Day: A Call to Repentance

By Watchman | November 2, 2012

For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day…Therefore, take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God.  Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations–these that remain among you–and make marriages with them, and go into them and they to you, know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you.  But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord has given you….Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the Lord your God promised you, so the Lord will bring upon you all harmful things until He has destroyed you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.  When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.      (Joshua 23: 9, 11-13, 15-16)

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  (Joshua 24:15)

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!  (Isaiah 5:20-21)

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!  How you are cut to the ground, you who have weakened the nations!  For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.   (Isaiah 14:12-14)

Can you hear Him calling you, my unbelieving or wavering brothers and sisters?  Can you hear Him crying out to you, “Repent of your sins and turn back to Me, the One who created and loves you; the One who wants to relieve you of your burden of sin and redeem you from your pain!”?  Can you hear Him in the night watches when you are alone and disgusted with the choices you’ve made that you thought no one would ever know about but which you cannot expel from your brain?  Can you hear Him when He shouts both His warnings and His love into your heart while you continue to sin regardless of the fact that deep down you know that how you’re living your life is wrong?  Can you hear Him today, right now, as He sends warning upon warning to a fallen nation?

A friend of mine who lives in Florida recommended that I read the book “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn–which, by the way, I recommend in turn to anyone reading this.  The book, though written as fiction, portrays scriptural truths about what happens to nations that turn away from God, based on Isaiah 9:10.  It chronicles how Israel brought on its own demise just before the diaspora, but also how this scripture is playing out in the United States today.  Most of you who have been reading the Watchman over the years know that I believe that the terrorist attacks and the financial woes of the nation are based  on our turning away from the Lord as ultimate ruler of our land.  This belief is the basis of “The  Harbinger” with scriptural documentation that is unquestionable.  However, as usual, too few people are heeding the call that God is making through His people, and He has again sent a real warning to us –Hurricane Sandy or, as the media calls it, Frankenstorm.  Will anyone heed the warning this time?  And why would God send it just at this exact moment in time?

Already the environmentalists, led by Al Gore, are proclaiming that global warming is the cause of the hurricane that has devastated so much of the east coast of the US including New York and New Jersey, while other weather “experts” claim that global warming is non-existant and the cause is different, but no one wants to voice the truth:  God has used weather and weather patterns to communicate with people since the beginning of time, and He is using this storm as a warning of His displeasure.  The UN is seeking to make it a crime under international law to insult Allah (no problem in insulting the Lord God of the Universe); the US and the rest of the world are working on making it an indictable hate-crime to disapprove of homosexual marriages, and our own government has turned to appeasement of Islamic nations to the detriment of our own country and that of our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel.  Our TVs are often tuned to programs that promote promiscuity, dishonest and, worst of all, blasphemy.  Our mainstream media outlets have become bastions of liberal social change and propaganda rather than the purveyors of truth they were intended to be.   Now the US is days away from an election the importance of which very few people understand.

One party tried hard this year to keep all mention of God and all support for Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel out of their platform (though they had to add back in a token reference to God), and have added to their platform the complete support of the homosexual lifestyle.  If these ideologies are allowed to stand in our nation, God will continue to keep His hand of protection and mercy away from us.  Understand certainly:  this election is not REALLY about the economy.  God has blessed us in the past and He will bless us in the future if we turn back to Him, but He will NOT allow us to be blessed if we continue to flout His authority.  This election is not REALLY about US security: God has protected us since the beginning of our history as a nation, and He can do so again, but He will NOT protect the nation which spurns His love and His laws and thinks it can replace Him with technology and its own intelligence.  “I will be like the Most High.”  We commit that same sin of pride that caused Satan’s downfall.  Now, I’m not saying that the other party will be Godly instead…only that if we knowingly keep in power the administration that has mocked the Bible and the One who has given us life, breath, freedom, comfort and blessings, then the warnings will turn into true judgment, and our nation as we know it will be no more.  If we do not vote to bless Israel, then He will not bless us.

Is it too late?  It may be.  It may be that no matter who wins the election our fate is sealed because we have gone too far from our Lord’s wishes to return.  Or it may be that enough repentant hearts will once again bring His favor on the land.  Choose this day who you will serve, because we may have few days left in which to decide.  Do you hear Him calling to you?
